The Anambra State House of Assembly has taken to address the plight of flood victims in riverine areas by passing a resolution urging Governor Chukwuma Soludo to construct additional Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps for those affected during flood.

    Representative of Ogbaru 1 State Constituency, Okpoko, Noble Igwe, who moved the motion for the building of more IDPs, emphasized the need for camps to be established in all upland local government areas of the state to safeguard flood victims in the riverine regions, especially since flood disasters have become almost an annual occurrence.

    “The camps should be built in all the upland local government areas of the state, to enable flood victims in the riverine areas to be saved from flood disasters, particularly now that the disasters have almost become an annual occurrence,” he said.

    At the recent plenary presided over by Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze, the Assembly also urged the governor to direct the state Ministry of Works to implement palliative measures on the dilapidated portions of the Oba/Ichi/Nnewi/Amichi/Uga Road, to ensure the safety and smooth movement of commuters of these roads.
